Hope you had a nice weekend.  Today’s post features two of the hottest trends; geo patterns and the Pantone color of the year Rose Quartz.  Injecting geometric decor in your home adds a modern flair.  From faceted accessories to table or lamps, geo inspired pieces enhance visual appeal & create eye-catching vigor to a room.

What is Pantone color of the year you ask?  Pantone began as the commercial printing company in the 1950’s; best known for its Pantone Matching System, a proprietary color space used in printing, paint, and fabric.  In 2000, Pantone created the “Color of the Year” as a symbolic color selection that serves as a cultural expression of mood and attitude. For the first time ever in 2016, the blend of two colors were selected: Rose Quartz a warm pink with gray undertones and Serenity a cooler sky blue offering a soothing peaceful balance in a turbulent world.  The softer pastel palette mixes well with shades of pinks, purples, grays and creams.

If I said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, my favorite part of Second Life are the charity fundraisers benefitting first world nonprofits.  I love seeing SL residents come together to support one another and the generosity of SL designers make it possible.  Today, I’m very excited to share with you Team Diabetes of Second Life, a new fundraiser event benefitting American Diabetes Association.

The American Diabetes Association’s mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.  The American Diabetes Association leads the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fights for those affected by diabetes by funding research to prevent, cure, and manage diabetes.  The ADA delivers services to hundreds of communities and provides objective and credible information and resources about diabetes.

With 100% of the proceeds of sales donated to the ADA, Team Diabetes of Second Life has a number of fundraiser events on the schedule including Fall Showcase 2015 & Art in Hat 2015 (in Nov).  The Fall Showcase 2015 will offer a different selection of creators every 3 months.  You can also donate directly on the Team Diabetes website.  This charity strikes a personal chord with me because I recently discovered both of my great-grandmas had diabetes.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.  Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar.  Hyperglycemia, or raised blood sugar, is a common effect of uncontrolled diabetes and over time leads to serious damage to many of the body’s systems, especially the nerves and blood vessels.

In 2014, 9% of adults 18 years and older had diabetes.  In 2012 diabetes was the direct cause of 1.5 million deaths.  More than 80% of diabetes deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.  WHO projects that diabetes will be the 7th leading cause of death in 2030.

DeAnn Defaux, owner and creator of Park Place Home Decor was also touched by diabetes and has designed a living room collection in honor of her long time friend Connie, who has been living with diabetes since she was 15 years old.  The Connie Set is available until Oct 31, 2015 with 100% of all proceeds going to Team Diabetes of SL.  The set includes a blue love seat (representing the blue circle in the logo for The World Diabetes Day and the official color for the International Diabetes Federation), wooden and glass coffee table with decorative accessories, books and pussy willow vase.  The Connie love seat has male/female animations as well as couple animations.

Welcome Autumn!

Wishing you a very belated harvest greetings!  Sorry, real life kidnapped me again.  In some ways I feel like Second Life is my mistress (or the male version in my case), I love the creative minds, the ability to design and the freedom to explore new ideas but it’s becoming difficult to carve out a few hours each week.  I’m going to finish up my outstanding projects and take an extended break.  But before I get ahead of myself, I want to share with you my version of autumn glamping.  The crisp air, the crunchy fall leaves and glorious harvest moon is beckoning us outdoor and the ideal backdrop to showcase some new releases from Sway’s, Serenity Styles and The Mustard Seed.

Ms. Lavinia Godenot, creator and owner of The Mustard Seed is offering a fresh takes on fall decor, on sale until Thursday, October 1, 2015 (all under $150L).  The new offerings include Happy Autumn Welcome Sign with pumpkins, leaves and Indian corn (group gift), Autumn Apple Cider Patio Set (texture change chairs) with hot cider, sweet treats, woodland bird umbrella chair and apple basket, Autumn Haybale with sleeping kitty (harvest sign & potted plants), Barrel of Fun Corn with multiple animations and Autumnal Fireplace (2 size, small & large) great for indoors or out.  I also used TMS Sunflower Trio and Gentle Overhang Tree (texture change).

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans!
