The Hands of Time!

Finishing Touches_Hands of TimeI wasn’t going to do Halloween this year because I over did it last year with a week-long sim open house and multiple blog posts, however that all changed when I saw Finishing Touches eerie skeleton leg table and adorable gothic Halloween Cupcake Treats.  The Halloween Cupcake Treats are a three-tiered cupcake stand with three varieties including hot pink frosting with dark chocolate spiderweb, pink vanilla milk chocolate spider with licorice spider legs and jolly skull-eyes.  The decorative treats inspired a stylized gothic black & white Tim Burton-ish living space complete with clock filled room, covered sheet chairs and spirits from beyond.  Pop over to Finishing Touches and delve into the deliciously decadent gothic Halloween delights!

Team Diabetes_Connie's Set

If I said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, my favorite part of Second Life are the charity fundraisers benefitting first world nonprofits.  I love seeing SL residents come together to support one another and the generosity of SL designers make it possible.  Today, I’m very excited to share with you Team Diabetes of Second Life, a new fundraiser event benefitting American Diabetes Association.

The American Diabetes Association’s mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.  The American Diabetes Association leads the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fights for those affected by diabetes by funding research to prevent, cure, and manage diabetes.  The ADA delivers services to hundreds of communities and provides objective and credible information and resources about diabetes.

With 100% of the proceeds of sales donated to the ADA, Team Diabetes of Second Life has a number of fundraiser events on the schedule including Fall Showcase 2015 & Art in Hat 2015 (in Nov).  The Fall Showcase 2015 will offer a different selection of creators every 3 months.  You can also donate directly on the Team Diabetes website.  This charity strikes a personal chord with me because I recently discovered both of my great-grandmas had diabetes.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.  Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar.  Hyperglycemia, or raised blood sugar, is a common effect of uncontrolled diabetes and over time leads to serious damage to many of the body’s systems, especially the nerves and blood vessels.

In 2014, 9% of adults 18 years and older had diabetes.  In 2012 diabetes was the direct cause of 1.5 million deaths.  More than 80% of diabetes deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.  WHO projects that diabetes will be the 7th leading cause of death in 2030.

DeAnn Defaux, owner and creator of Park Place Home Decor was also touched by diabetes and has designed a living room collection in honor of her long time friend Connie, who has been living with diabetes since she was 15 years old.  The Connie Set is available until Oct 31, 2015 with 100% of all proceeds going to Team Diabetes of SL.  The set includes a blue love seat (representing the blue circle in the logo for The World Diabetes Day and the official color for the International Diabetes Federation), wooden and glass coffee table with decorative accessories, books and pussy willow vase.  The Connie love seat has male/female animations as well as couple animations.

To complete the styling of the living space, I wanted to enhance the blue color palette by using ancient Chinese blue & white temple jars placed upon a blue tiled antique Spargel & Shine Home white stone Madison Fireplace ($10L on Antique Grid Autumn Hunt) and aged Serenity Style whitewash piano creating a relaxed mood.  Pops of blue are renforced in the mug on the coffee table and handbag scarf on the piano bench.   Softer green rug draws your eyes to Serenity Style Soul Happy Chest Collection (green), discounted 25% at On9 (until 10/28/15).

Lastly, I wanted to give you an update on the Rock Your Rack 2015 event I blogged last week…drumroll please: total raised for the National Breast Cancer Foundation is $658,991L or $2,500 USD.  Please continue your generosity for this very important ADA inaugural charity fundraiser, look for my blog post on Art in Hats 2015 coming soon!

Park Place Home Decor, Ashford BookcaseDeAnn Dufaux of Park Place Home Decor, also designed corresponding items in the Ashford collection: walnut bookcase, desk and beige desk chair (back wall) available at her main store, on sale this weekend (all under $100L). The Ashford Walnut Bookcase is filled with books, storage, frames, files and decorative items.  The matching Ashford Walnut Desk, with open and close drawers, is the ideal spot to relax or work.  The desk includes reference books and beige table lamp.  Who wouldn’t want to get down to business in the cozy and oversized upholstered beige Ashford Desk Chair?  Also on sale this weekend for $60L is the Copper Plate Table Centerpiece.

Park Place Home Decor, Ashford LR (Desk & Chair)To bring the outside in, I used Park Place Birch Tree Picture wall art over the Ashford Desk.  The black frame and leaf outline enhances the black classic lines in the Ashford Living Room collection.  You can find the Birch Tree art at the 24 event!  Lastly, Little Branch Potted Bilbo Birch Tree is a free group gift and can be found at the Cosmo Shopping Region.  Hope you’re inspired by the classic with a contemporary twist living room, so Let’s Get Decorating!Park Place Home Decor, Autumn Candleholder

A Fresh Spin on Fall!

Softer shade for Fall

Are you craving a fresh spin on Fall decor?  Think softer, light palettes with metallic gold embellishment as your statement piece.  It’s about changing people’s perspective of what’s expected.  Use muted salmon instead of orange, beige replaces chocolate-brown and pale olive sage for rich forest green.  These tones work perfectly right now where in some parts of the country the weather is warm.   Accent with a few lighter shade pumpkins, neutral leaves and barrels of apples.  Look for this unexpected trend to last through winter with creams, ivories and whites dominating the color scheme.

I was inspired to create a ‘whiter shade of pale’ autumn living room using Clutter for Builder Felled Fabric Textures (3 packs, 10 color/prints in each) available for $10L each at The Wash Biannual Cart Sale (8/26-9/16).  Also offered at The Wash Cart Sale are 4 Fall Concept Wall Frames, each with an image of leaves, tree, and Autumn word art.  Using the texture packs, you can design the fall frames in your own unique style, or add the textures to pillows and/or window coverings.  To complete the room, I used Park Place Home Decor Haven Accent Chair (Coffee & Cream), Jian Wine CartSerenity Style My Old Piano (natural) and Cleo Design’s Fireplace.  Some decorative accessories include Dreamscapes Art Gallery Apple Buckets, Autumn Decor Shutter A and Sina Wall Board (over fireplace), What Next Decorative Pumpkins, Shutter Field Fall Letter Decor and Pumpkin Lanterns, and Serenity Style Dizzie Room Divider (available @ Mesh Avenue starting 9/10/15).  Hope you enjoyed the romantic mood for autumn and are inspired by the color palette to try it in your Second Life home!
