Bask in the Glow of Autumn

Autumn Porch Overview Framed

The waning days of autumn are upon us and for Americans, Thanksgiving is 12 days away.  The grocery stores are filling up with families buying turkey and all the fixings, soon the malls will have hurried shoppers busting down the black Friday doors, and before we know it Christmas and the New Year will be here.  Now is the time to slow down, reflect on the past year, be thankful for friends and family, and celebrate your blessings.  Recently, I did just that, after a few unfortunate incidents, I had too much and needed to walk away from Second Life.  I was drained, discouraged, disappointed, and deflated.  This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful to Niki Silverweb, Ayla Zhoy and Morgan Mickalobe who supported and encouraged me to return to SL.  Your kindness, care and friendship mean the world to me.  So this Thanksgiving who are your thankful for?

My love for virtual interior design was calling out and I wanted to design an autumnal cottage with a large veranda located by a lake with views of apple orchards and snow-capped mountains.  I envisioned Lake Tahoe, CA in the early fall when the weather is wonderful, the air is crisp but not too chilly cold, the nights are still, and the trees are bare with views of clear skies, filled with stars and full moons.   The ivy covered porch is overflowing with cozy spots, delicious delights, unexpected guests, and nods to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Creating a warm, welcoming, inviting place with crackling fire from the hearth is sure to be the area where your guests will relax after the harvest feast!

Ravenshire Halloween Village

Overview

Just a few hours left for the 7th Annual Second Life Home & Garden Expo 2014 and harvest time is here! Since, October is coming up soon, and as my loyal readers & friends know I LOVE Halloween, so I couldn’t resist creating a beau-boo Victorian Trick or Treat village using Roawenwood Ravenshire Village Shoppes available at HGE. There are three different shops offered for sale at the expo: a single with side porch, a double with two individual rooms, and a grande with three connected rooms. Roawenwood is also offering a village fountain, patio pavers, and hay bales (Sim 3).  Halloween decor is furnished by Finishing Touches, Thaino Designs, Park Place, Sway’s, What Next, and Aphrodite Shop, I will showcase the items and where to purchased them in my upcoming blog post.  Coming this week, I will host an open house at the Halloween Village featuring some of my favorite designers on the grid.  Stop by, check out each decorated room, trick or treat among ghosts and witches, bring your little ones, nothing scary, all sweet. Happy harvest time and remember always let’s get decorating!

Open House Sign blog

First thank you all for your support and great positive feedback with last weeks open house. When my design partner in crime, Niki Silverweb first suggested the idea I was scared that we would be spammed, or no one would show up.  I couldn’t have been more surprised by the great outpouring from friends, designers, and fellow bloggers.  So, since it was a huge success last weekend, we are going to open up our homes this weekend, Sept 13-16. It’s the perfect opportunity to showcase both of our styles.

Early in 2014, Niki & I collaborated on our first build together, the Men’s Warehouse, an industrial loft space with game area, bar, Niki’s art studio, and rest/work zone with walls of bricks and open windows.  It is the best guy’s hangout I’ve seen on Second Life.  It’s truly awesome!

A few months ago, I gave you a sneak peek of the bedroom in my retro Palm Springs home. Today, we are going back to the 50’s inspired mid-century modern home with walls of glass, wood paneling, and a very cool side yard.  The home features a stone facade entry with modern art installation (& Snowflake, our DIVA cat’s digs), a large wood-paneled living room decorated in black, white, and yellow with starburst mirror over the see-through fireplace, a music room complete with jukebox and scattered records, and a 50’s kitchen in red, white, and teal, finished with retro appliances, decorative signage, and of course a turkey in the oven!  I tried to stay true to the mid-century movement with sleek lines, bright colors, hard edges, and an overall uncluttered look.  The outside yard plays host to family/friends BBQ with watermelon influenced patio furniture: aluminum lawn chairs, picnic set, drink dispenser, and a pink/white camper!  Wander out back and meet our Sassy and her gang of sheep, relax, stay for dinner, and enjoy (grab a beer at Niki’s)!
