Asian Futurism

Asian Future | Junko Koshino (fr)

In the past few weeks I’ve been honored to judge the 2015 Colour of Couture Top Model Competition.  COC, founded by Reign Congrejo and Sequoia Nightfire, showcases the talents of Women of Color in Second Life Fashion across the grid including: Aboriginal, African/African Diaspora, Alaska Native, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American, Maori, Native American, Indian, South Sea and Pacific Islanders, and Indigenous heritages throughout the world.

One need not be a woman of color (in RL) to compete in COC.  The goal is to bring awareness and celebrate the different cultures and ethnicities of women across the global community.  Candidates embrace world cultures, have the spirit and cooperative nature to celebrate beauty, intelligence and creativity of Women of Colour, and honor these women for their contributions and achievements.

Koshino challenges almost every preconception about fashion materials available for clothing, her garments feature geometric asymmetrical shapes, bright and contrasting hues, various lengths, and unusual fabrics such as: metals, helmeted figures, sculptural forms, cocoons and spirals, concentric circles, ribbed construction, and materials from plastic to metal to cloth. The circle is most important to Koshino, who sees the form as complete and eternal, both ancient and futuristic.

One of the best parts of judging a styling contest is you learn about real life global fashion designers that you were not familiar with and since you studied the designers inspiration you can create your own interpretation. I greatly enjoyed Koshino artistry and wanted to design an outfit that merge traditional theatrical geisha with avant-garde futurism coupled with industrial metals playing with textures and shapes.  In the Junko’s Spring/Summer 2014 Poland Fashion Week runway show, the color palette was primarily silver, black, white, touches of hot pinks/neon lime and metal with large sculpted hips.  Since the circle is the central element in Koshino designs, I selected a collar that framed the face and traditional geisha styled hair with fan completing the form.  Hope you liked the styling and if you have tomorrow, stop by the show and see the COC candidates interpretation.  Taxi please…

To Infinity and Beyond!

Sway's Infinity Set

On Friday, Google unveiled projected illustrations of the new Googleplex campus spanning 3.4 million square feet on four sites in a whimsical futuristic design that incorporates sweeping translucent canopies and glass walls.  A building boom is occurring with other tech giants leading the way from Facebook’s new campus designed by world-famous architect Frank Gerhy looking like a sprawling forest and Apple’s new headquarters constructed like a giant circle which has been dubbed iSpaceship.  As designs evolve nature and the environment play an important element from the material used serving as an inspiration.  If we don’t propel design forward we will not create innovation.

Paying tribute to the futuristic design, I’ve created a space themed loft hideout utilizing Sway’s Infinity set previously released at Uber, now available in Swayland.  The deep rich celestial blue sofa with brightly colored outer space print pillows and matching floor lamp is trending now.  I highlighted the sofa accent pillows vibrant colors with corresponding furniture pieces in the same palette, transforming the loft into a playful area that any star-gazer would love to relax, enjoy some games or look out for shooting stars.  Since the latest trend is the glorious and calming color blue the possibilities are endless, from sea to space this rich tone can be easily added to your first world homes with rugs, art or decorative accessories!  Hope you were inspired by the forecasted future, embrace the blues and share with me your styles on Facebook.

Goldfinger

Goldfinger
He’s the man, the man with the Midas touch
A spider’s touch
Such a cold finger
Beckons you to enter his web of sin
But don’t go in…

Pretty girl, beware of his heart of gold
This heart is cold
He loves only gold
Only gold…

Angel Dessous unique black box special for today, Wednesday, May 8, 2013, Domino is a bronze gold cocktail dress perfect for any special occasion.  The satin dress trimmed in bronze cord with winged collar makes me think of James Bond’s Goldfinger and Dame Shirley Bassey wonderful Oscar 2013 performance.  I paired the dress with Finesmith Mix Gold necklace, Shiri bracelet and Dawn bangles (all group gift).  I’m wearing Belleza Best Buy Mya skin 1 in pale and Truth Andrea hair in Marmalade.  A side note, Truth is having a hair sale with all regular priced hair marked down to 75L and discounted hair to 35L until Friday, May 10, 2013.  I took my photos at Ascension sim which is part of the LEA project, with seven mysterious levels of sound, color and alien plant life at this futuristic land built by Mantis Oh. Check it out! And, remember the black box special is only available today, Wednesday, May 8, 2013 for 69L.

The future is ours!

A modern futuristic pants outfit with a nod to the 70’s was Angel Dessous black box Wednesday surprise today. The cobalt blue shirt with extreme puff lace sleeves and super low back can be worn with anything, but it is perfectly paired with the slim black pants trimmed in lace. The black lace fascinator with swirly top and biker gloves completes the edgy look.  I paired the pants outfit with Finesmith black steel Menifa set and clear lucite Roses for You pendant and ring.  ::CHoOoZ:: was having a birthday promo and I purchased the Mafia Reloaded black/silver platform booties for 10L that complement the hip outfit.  To top it off, Ali & Ali Hair is having a 50L sale and I purchased the Serafine in Fire finishing the avant-garde style. This special is only good today, Wednesday, January 30, 2013, so go now to grab this deal!
