Team Diabetes_Connie's Set

If I said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, my favorite part of Second Life are the charity fundraisers benefitting first world nonprofits.  I love seeing SL residents come together to support one another and the generosity of SL designers make it possible.  Today, I’m very excited to share with you Team Diabetes of Second Life, a new fundraiser event benefitting American Diabetes Association.

The American Diabetes Association’s mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.  The American Diabetes Association leads the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fights for those affected by diabetes by funding research to prevent, cure, and manage diabetes.  The ADA delivers services to hundreds of communities and provides objective and credible information and resources about diabetes.

With 100% of the proceeds of sales donated to the ADA, Team Diabetes of Second Life has a number of fundraiser events on the schedule including Fall Showcase 2015 & Art in Hat 2015 (in Nov).  The Fall Showcase 2015 will offer a different selection of creators every 3 months.  You can also donate directly on the Team Diabetes website.  This charity strikes a personal chord with me because I recently discovered both of my great-grandmas had diabetes.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.  Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar.  Hyperglycemia, or raised blood sugar, is a common effect of uncontrolled diabetes and over time leads to serious damage to many of the body’s systems, especially the nerves and blood vessels.

In 2014, 9% of adults 18 years and older had diabetes.  In 2012 diabetes was the direct cause of 1.5 million deaths.  More than 80% of diabetes deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.  WHO projects that diabetes will be the 7th leading cause of death in 2030.

DeAnn Defaux, owner and creator of Park Place Home Decor was also touched by diabetes and has designed a living room collection in honor of her long time friend Connie, who has been living with diabetes since she was 15 years old.  The Connie Set is available until Oct 31, 2015 with 100% of all proceeds going to Team Diabetes of SL.  The set includes a blue love seat (representing the blue circle in the logo for The World Diabetes Day and the official color for the International Diabetes Federation), wooden and glass coffee table with decorative accessories, books and pussy willow vase.  The Connie love seat has male/female animations as well as couple animations.

To complete the styling of the living space, I wanted to enhance the blue color palette by using ancient Chinese blue & white temple jars placed upon a blue tiled antique Spargel & Shine Home white stone Madison Fireplace ($10L on Antique Grid Autumn Hunt) and aged Serenity Style whitewash piano creating a relaxed mood.  Pops of blue are renforced in the mug on the coffee table and handbag scarf on the piano bench.   Softer green rug draws your eyes to Serenity Style Soul Happy Chest Collection (green), discounted 25% at On9 (until 10/28/15).

Lastly, I wanted to give you an update on the Rock Your Rack 2015 event I blogged last week…drumroll please: total raised for the National Breast Cancer Foundation is $658,991L or $2,500 USD.  Please continue your generosity for this very important ADA inaugural charity fundraiser, look for my blog post on Art in Hats 2015 coming soon!

Passport to Style: Far East

Park Place, Far East Style

One of my favorite aspects of being a virtual reality interior designer is that it allows you to travel to all corners of the globe without leaving your home.  Just like in VR fashion styling, I research the origins, location, and decor elements and try to give you a sense of the place.  Last year, I explored the various styles of California design, sharing stories of my family travels.  Lately, I have the travel bug and find myself googling different locales.  Today we have packed our bags and are heading to the Far East!

Park Place, Eastern Shelf Unit

I love the fusion of serene, peaceful, balanced simplicity of Asian decor paired with modern furnishings.  Some key design principles of Oriental style are natural elements, clean lines, Chinoiserie furniture, and circle motif.  Today, I designed a small tea-house space using some of Park Place Home Decor current sale items available at the main store (ending Saturday) and at The Wash Biannual Cart Sale (8/26-9/16).  Park Place Eastern Shelf Unit with Accessories typifies a number of Asian design components from the upper circle unit to the symmetrical balance of the shelving.  I added the Blue Mosaic Bottle Decor, available for $10L at The Wash Cart Sale, to highlight the traditional temple in the middle of the circle unit.  Flanking the Eastern Shelf is the Marble Resting Egret, representing the reflection of nature often found in Far East style.

Park Place, Low Tea Table

Another sale item offered until Saturday is the Low Tea Table with Cushions.  The black coffee table with burgundy cushion seating matches the Eastern Shelf Unit and embodies the clean lines of Asian form.  The tea table comes with a coffee set and to complete the scene, I added the Box of Fine Chocolates (available @ The Wash Sale).

Park Place, Cherry Table Clock

Finally, placed on a storage unit in the corner is the Copper Red Table Clock; the hands on the clock mimic the circular pattern in the shelving unit.  Be sure to check out all the sale offerings at The Wash and stop by Park Place main store for hunt gifts and discounted specials.  Hope you enjoyed the trip and are inspired to incorporate some Far East elements into your home!

Park Place’s generous offers

The Lexi Project Donation- Haven Chair & Table Clock

Hello again!  I know, I’ve been missing in action for a few weeks.  I’ve been working feverishly on a client project and honestly, I’ve hit more roadblocks that any Daytona 500 speed racer.  Time to take a break and share with you Park Place Home Decor’s generous offering for The Lexi Project, a fundraising event for Lexi Zelin, owner of AngelRed Couture.  My favorite part of Second Life are the numerous charity events that help real life causes; from the recently wrapped up Hair Fair that benefited Wigs for Kids, to Relay for Life SL that aids American Cancer Society, to tons more, and I’m always willing to land a hand.

Lexi Zelin, owner and creator of AngelRED Couture, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Mounting medical bills and expenses are the last thing the 28-year-old mother needs to stress over.  Over 350+ generous designers and creators have come together at The Lexi Project, with 100% of all proceeds going straight to Lexi running from July 26th to August 9th.  There are also donation kiosks at the event location and for those of you who would like to donate directly, Lexi set-up a GoFundMe page.   Let’s come together and meet or beat Lexi goal of $12k, we are half way there.  The Lexi Project blog tells more about her story, has a complete designer list and gives a daily update on the funds raised.

DeAnn Dufaux of Park Place contributed the Haven Accent comfy barrel chair in 3 different colors (sunshine red {orange}, purple passion {eggplant} and coffee & cream {taupe}), and 3 version of a table clock (white marble, walnut & gold and black marble).  With just one month of summer left, it’s time to start thinking of autumn and slowly transitioning your interior.  Deep sumptuous plum is a major trend in home decor for fall especially when paired with brass and gold accents.  Infusing color and rich textures like jade green, grey and umber coupled with current styles like jute enhance the autumnal feeling and makes your home on trend!  Hop over and spend some Linden knowing your purchase will help Lexi.
