Teahouse of the August Moon

Asian Tea House Full

A new round of The Challenge has started for June with the theme Asian.  There are seven designers participating in the monthly themed event offering everything from a tea house, to sushi, to Asian cabinets.  The Challenge is a bit different than other monthly home & garden shopping events where themed products are available for sale at one location.  With this event you can sneak peek the items on The Challenge site and then if interested in purchasing the creation, you teleport to the different stores.

Asian Tea House doorway

I personally love incorporating Far East pieces in home decor.  My childhood home was mainly furnished with Oriental antiques from my families travels.  The refinement of clean lines, balanced simplicity, natural materials, and hand painted lacquer furniture are elements of Asian style.  When I saw the June designs for The Challenge, I couldn’t wait to create a Japanese tea house in Second Life.  Traditionally, the tea house (as known as chashitsu) is free standing structure designed exclusivly for tea ceremonies.  Typical features of chashitsu are shoji windows and sliding doors made of wooden lattice covered in translucent paper.  I’m very fortunate that I’ve participated in many tea cermonies and its truly a beautiful experience.

Tea Table

I utilized [ht:home] little tea house as my building and styled a traditional tea ceremony with Cleo Designs tea table, chairs and tea accessories.  Cleo’s gorgeous luminous screen and floor lantern are flanking the side wall.  Apple Fall’s Chinese Credenza serves as a buffet table for Jian Sushi & Sashimi Time trays.  On the side of the buffet is 22769 ~ [bauwerk] My Zen Corner birdcage, cherry blossom, small buddha head, incense burner and zen stones.

Sushi Buffet

Pull the shoji screens closed and both sides of the doorway have Asian cabinets (22769 ~ [bauwerk] My Zen Corner & Newchurch Kaidan Mission Tansu) and customary artifacts from porcelain temple jars, to bonsai trees, to miniature Japanese zen garden.  You can easily incoporate any of these furnishing into your SL home creating layers and nuance.  Don’t be afraid to experiment with unfamiliar styles, after all virtual interior design is easier on your back!

I also wanted to highlight Prism Moira, a sexy Asian printed outfit available for free on the Summertime Fun Hunt (June 1st – 30th).  Although you couldn’t wear it to a tradtional tea cermony, it will serve as the perfect inspiration for incoporating Asian style in your home.

Four Seasons of Boudoirs

In my last post for Parachute Homes, I highlighted my six essentials to a dreamy night sleep.  I created four bedroom spaces each featuring a different season.  I wanted to provide you with some more photos and style card for each. Hopefully you are inspired to create your own sanctuary and take into consideration some of my tips.

First Frost

Icy Princess Bedroom FR

I know what some of my loyal readers are thinking, doesn’t she live in California, has she ever seen snow?  Yes, you are right, I live in the great Golden state and you’re partial correct in your thinking, I can’t appreciate winter unless I’ve been snowed-in and my legs buried deep in snow banks.  For the record, I did see snow once, that was on the same trip to the Sierra when I attempted skiing, for the first and only time, which resulted in a broken leg.  Having said that, I live in the Silicon Valley, where we have our own version of winter and don’t panic at the sight of rain like our southern neighbors.  Speaking of rain, it’s been raining cats & dogs for a few days and last week we had our first ever rain day, almost all schools were closed and most business.  According to the weather folks, we were suppose to get huge gust of winds and heavy rain, they were concerned that the creeks would overflow.  Honestly, seemed like a bunch of smoke and no fire, so to speak, but I can’t complain, California been in a drought for a few years and every drop helps.  When I was a kid, we had a drought and had to extremely cut back our water usage, saving dish water to water house plants and letting our lawns turn brown.  One year, I can remember it like it was yesterday, it was right around Christmas, we had a deep frost and my backyard citrus trees were covered in icicles.  I broke a few off and saved them in the freezer, I guess I thought every drop counts! 🙂

The Mustard Seed Icy Fireplace FR

I was inspired by the colors Winter, specific the frost palette of soft blues, shimmering teals, creamy whites, and sparkling silvers for today’s interior design post using a number of items (some free) from current events.  I created an icy princess bedroom hideaway complete with a stacked mattress daybed from Cleo Designs for The Challenge Fairytale theme, frosted Winter Trees from Trompe Loeil (**FREE**), snowflake winter decor, and a cozy fireplace from The Mustard Seed.  I also wanted to showcase Sassy Ripples Gown (POE7 Gift), a sexy sequined aqua and black number with a low-cut back and peek-a-boo side.  I paired the gown with Chop Zuey Sultaness Set, available on the 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar (gifts for members and non-members) and Belleza’s new Christmas Group Gift skin, Mae.  I hope you have some time this weekend to pick up some of these deals and are inspired by all the magic of the season.

On a side note, my blog Hidden Gems in Second Life turns two today.  I honestly can’t believe that something I started on a whim has now become a part of my life for the last few years.  As I grow and expand my brand, I reflect back on all the post, looks, comments and suggestions, and all I can say is thank you.  Thank you for your support and readership. Hopefully, I can stop time and post a top 10 list before 2015, but if we don’t meet again till the new year, I wish you a glorious and bright holiday season filled with love, lights, good food and joyous smiles!

Hark! The Hearld Angels Sing…

POE7 Hunt | FT Angel Set Framed

The 7th Annual Peace on Earth Hunt has official started (December 1, 2014 – January 6, 2015) and I hope you are enjoying seeing some of the gift previews.  Today, I’ve designed a peaceful respite using Finishing Touches Angels Among Us POE gift and the complementary Angel Trees in two styles, primitive and in burlap sack.  The Angels Among Us set includes hickory farmhouse table, painted wood peace on earth blocks, primitive angel display, and angels quilted wall hanging.  I added The Mustard Seeds Crouching Puppy display, available at Mieville Thames Frost Fair (11/28 -12/28), and Cleo Designs Cookie Stand, advent calendar gift #1, to create the perfect holiday nook; a place where you can relax after a long day shopping the grid, or a spot to curl up and enjoy a good book.  I was looking forward to that comfy chair and angelic decor after a dizzying night, so many events so little time.  As soon as I got home, I threw on my new Glam Dreams Chunky Natural Sweater and Leggings outfit (POE gift), and started to write my letter to Santa, yes…of course I still believe and we have been pen pals for years, so what’s a girl to do, can’t disappoint the jolly fella.

POE7 Hunt | Glam Dreams Framed

Dear Santa,

Hope your tummy is filled with yummy treats and I promise to leave my recipe for Thumbprint cookies next to the milk and cookies this year.  I know how you and the ‘Misses’ like them.  Let’s get down to business, I’ve been a very good girl. Niki, well not so much but she’s working on it.  I don’t need a lot just maybe the usual gift cards to my favorite home stores, new shoes, warm hugs, and peace on earth.  I designed a new area for you to leave all my goodies, if you would be so kind.  Oh yes, I left some organic carrots and apples for Rudy and the gang in the kitchen.  Same time next year!

Hugs and kisses,

Glory

After I wrote my letter to the silver whisker chap, I placed it safely in my new Pelletteria Morrisey Letters to Santa Handbag and will mail it tomorrow.  Hope he likes the tranquil haven I made.  Stop by Finishing Touches for some wonderful holiday decor and don’t forget to enjoy the advent calendar gifts from Cleo Designs and Sway’s (not shown).  Best of luck on the POE hunt.  My eyes are getting heavy, bye for now, Snow Angel and I need our cat nap.

Shop ’til you Drop!

Haute Couture Dress Boutique

I love shopping as much as the next girl, my mom would often say “let’s shop till we drop.” When I learned that the October theme for The Challenge is Shopping, I was excited to create something in Second Life I’ve always dreamed of in real life, my own boutique.  Not only did I design and furnish “Glory’s Haute Couture Shop” with some of my favorite shoes, dresses, and hats, but I expanded the idea into a small seaside district, with “Glory’s Sweet Treat Shop” next door (previously blogged here).  Concentrating on my point of view (POV), of showcasing California interior design and styles, I attempted to create my favorite place on earth, Carmel-by-the-Sea.  I thought my tribute to Carmel build would fit perfectly into the monthly themed ? feature.

Carmel is a small coastal artist community situated on the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California. It is noted for cobblestone streets, small boutiques, art galleries, and being dog friendly.  One day I would love to own a second home in the Carmel Valley, but for now I have wonderful memories of important milestones, like my 18th birthday, spraining my ankle once or twice on the irregular pavement, and ordering a Ramos Fizz at the Del Monte Bar & Grill at the age of 5 (ok, so I guess I should have specify virgin cocktail, please).

Dress Shop Front Door

I used the Black Tulips My First Store exclusive release as the corresponding storefront for both the boutique and sweet treat shop, creating uniformity and consistency in the boulevard. All the merchandise is arranged on Hate This Store Displays with fashion sketches indicating the variety of items. Cleo Designs Tete a Tete chairs with tea set frame the shop windows and the Fitting Rooms are in the corner of the store.  I transformed a Hate This Display Table into a check out area, pairing it with Fetch Shopping Corkboard and Kuro Shopping List.  If you are a designer looking to redesign your store, or ever wanted to fantasize about creating your own store, pop over and pick up these exclusive creations made for The Challenge.
