Seaside Living

Seaside Living

Transitioning seasons can be one of the hardest and most challenging aspects in home design.  A solution is to add the upcoming seasons decorative accessories or color palette. The above seaside cabin living room space is awash in soft blues and greens, a typical spring color palette and the addition of nautical oars, sail boat, seashells and beachy wall art makes this an inviting spring/summer getaway.  Get a jump start on summer by checking out the Perfect Ten event (June 1-15) where you can find Tylar’s Treasures “Sea” oar sign, repurposed barrels side tables, oar table lamps, and compass rug all for 50% off.  I also used Shutter Field Beach Living Set released for the May round of The Challenge theme: Holiday/Beach and accessorize with The Mustard Seed Beachy Signs, Floorplan Oar Frames and Apple Fall Storm Lamp.  Hope you are inspired to change it up and Let’s Get Decorating!

Beach Day

Tylar's Treasure (Nautical)

The phone was ringing off the hook this morning.  I dragged myself out of bed and reluctantly answered.  It was real life calling to inform me to get up, go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.  “I can’t, I have too much to do,” I said, but real life wasn’t hearing of it.  So I surrendered, packed the Mustang, put the top down and headed over the hill to Half Moon Bay, CA (USA).  Wow, the beach was gorgeous.  The puffy white Cumulus clouds caressed the ocean, the sand rippled under my toes and the squeals of joy from young treasure hunters blanketed the shore.  It was a great day at the beach; I rushed home to recreate the experience in Second Life.

Beach Days Flamingo

Luckily for me the Perfect Ten event opens tomorrow, June 1st -15th and Tylar’s Treasures has the ideal beachcomber collection on sale for 50% off.  All items in the Sea Collection are sold separately and include: Adirondack chairs, pillars with ship wheel coffee table, ‘Sea’ oar wall art, dusty blue compass rug, sea barrel/crate, and pillar with seagull.  I headed over to The Mustard Seed and picked up the bronze flamingo welcome beach sign that’s on sale for $60L until Thursday, June 4, 2015.  Ms. Lavinia Godenot, owner of The Mustard Seed, gave me a sneak peek of her Day at the Beach Hunt prize (June 1 to 31), the magical beach buckets with twigs and seashells (2 versions: with or without twinkle lights).  One can’t go to the beach without a towel, so I hurried over to [free bird] and picked up the Day At The Beach Towel Rack (**free** for all group members, ends TONIGHT).  Finally, I had to reproduce the children’s thrill at finding buried treasures.  Little Llama created the Oh-FISH-ally Summer Set (kids beach chair, treasure cooler and sandcastle kit) for The Challenge May theme: Holiday/Beach.  I loved creating the exterior seaside styling and was inspired to design a coastal chic interior; upcoming post featuring more items from the Perfect Ten event and The Challenge.  Summer is almost here, so grab these beachy deals and Let’s Get Decorating!

(And, if you would be so kind, like Serendipity Designs on Facebook and creator Kyra Ishtari vows to release another gift when we hit 100 FB “likes”!)

Overview of Carolina Driftwood Living Room

The Carolina Driftwood Living Room is a wash of soft cool blues and bleached birch driftwood.  The combination of natural wood with the linen and cotton-covered sofa, arm-chair and lounge creates the ideal restful spot.  The Carolina Driftwood Living Room is contemporary with clean lines, over stuffed pillows, matching tables and ottomans, and corresponding furnishings.  It’s simply the perfect collection for a summer coastal cottage!  Ms. Ishtari flawless attention to detail, elegant appointments, and gentle nods to commonly found sand coated wooden plank floors is excellent.  I truly love all of Kyra’s designs but the Carolina Driftwood collection is so soothing and dreamy, I want to own the suite in real life!  The set includes the dusty blue L- shaped sofa, arm-chair, tufted table with shelf and accessories, patchwork ivory rug, boat bookcase, ship wheel, beach triptych, and anchored detailed console table.  To finish the living room, I used pieces from Serendipity Designs Summer Blue collection (soon to be re-released).  Both series pair perfectly together and I highly recommend mixing and matching to always create a unique home that screams YOU!  Pop over to Serendipity Designs and grab the Carolina Driftwood Living Room tomorrow, and in case you’re in the need for a restful bedroom haven buy the corresponding  Carolina Driftwood Bedroom Suite.  Taxi please…

Stay tuned, Kyra just release the Sarasota Living Room, inspired by real life design.  I will put my own unique style on the furnishings and blog the Sarasota set shortly.  It’s a modern luxury dream!  But first, I hear wedding bells.

The Beachcomber

Seabreeze set

I’m super excited. This past month, I picked up three new home & garden sponsors and today I’ll spotlight Heart Homes Sailor Seabreeze bedroom collection by the amazing creator team of Marina Ramer and Jaylin Whitewood (also of Aphrodite Shop, look for other upcoming posts featuring Aphrodite items).  Also, I’m thrilled to share a new monthly article with my designer partner Niki Silverweb, “The ? Room.” Each month we will collaborate on a themed room.  Today, we created the perfect bedroom retreat just in time for summer, “The Beachcomber Bedroom,” utilizing Heart Homes new release Sailor Seabreeze set, complete with a fireplace, sidetables, bed, texture change wing chairs, seashell accessories, model ship, row boat, and framed art.

Second Life might be a virtual game developed by Linden Labs, but it is also a great indicator of real life trends.  Three emerging styles this season that you can incorporate in your home design are: be inspired by nature, create drama with textures, and reimagine a new life for older items.

Nature: Bring the outside in by taking close up photos of seashells, leaves, flowers or trees.  Make use of personal items or “found” items, such as a shell collection, or miniature boats, like the Hearts Homes seashell wall decor filled with grasses and dried flowers. These are inexpensive ways to change your space to reflect the season.

Texture: Drama in the bedroom seems cliche, but if you invision luxury fabrics with special appointments you can create a cozy haven and restful spot. Designers Marina and Jaylin used a shorebird pattern comforter evocative of the sea shore. I have noticed more real life interior designers adding textured duvets and pillows creating interest and spark in the bedroom.

Re-purpose: Never be afraid to give a second life to older items by spray painting, much like the Heart Homes Sailor Seabreeze iron bedframe painted in layered greens and blues, reminiscent of the sky and sea.  Recycling is not only good and necessary for the environment, but it allows you to inject you own personal style into your home. Recreating a new life for older items is also budget friendly and the cornerstone of the shabby chic vintage movement.
