Pumpkin Spice

Pumpkin Spice- Tylar's Treasures Fireside LRIn just a few weeks it will be the American holiday Thanksgiving where families and friends gather to enjoy a feast, football and gratitude for all they have.  Today, I’ve styled living space using Tylar’s Treasures Firelight Collection deeply discounted 50% off at Perfect Ten event until tomorrow, Sunday, November 15, 2015.  The collection includes black leather tufted armchairs, black wooden coffee table complete with pumpkin bowl display and brown marble fireplace with mirror and decorative accessories.  This grouping is a nice accompany to a larger set or perfect on its own.  I paired the Firelight set with The Artist Shed La Chaise de Citrouille, a $1L gift on the Stuff The Bird hunt (11/1-30/15).  I’m also playing caught up on a few rounds of The Challenge I’ve missed including Hanging Hanky Lights by Chiana Oh (Fabric Sept round) and Sputnik Light from %Percent Furniture (Victorian Nov round).  Sway’s is offering the Victoria Hanging Lamps at Fantasy Gacha Carnival (until 12/6/15) and Darret Stone Fireplace Set {using Fire Poker only} at The Liaison Collaborative (till 11/30/15).  Helping to create the cozy and warm space is Sway’s Kaden Rugs (past FLF item).  Finally, The Mustard Seed’s Golden Autumn Decor Set which consist of the tree of life table, bowl of pumpkins, acorn doll and 4 golden concept frame wall art enhance the autumnal room.  Hope you enjoyed my pumpkin spice living space and take advantage of the great deals on the grid.  If we don’t meet again till before Turkey Day, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving!

A step back into time…

Farmhouse_Exterior OverviewJust a few days till Halloween and I wanted to share with you one build I’ve been preoccupied with since spring.  I hoped to create the rolling hills of a French countryside wine region similar to Provence using Apple Fall’s rural farmhouse (rare) from the The Arcade March 2015 round.  Nestled in the hillside, the stucco two-story building with creeping ivy, clay tile roof, worn exterior shutters and double barn door has a vintage aged working farm atmosphere. Step outside to be greeted by vineyards, zig-zag rose-bush lined cobblestone path and a secret retreat garden shed. The converted garage barrel room has some of the best views of the lake and hillside.  Come join me on my journey, a step back into time.

Farmhouse Wine Room_Exterior ViewFarmhouse Wine Room_OverviewFarmhouse Wine Room_VineyardsThe interior of the farmhouse is vintage shabby chic with a distinctive feminine feel with rose print chairs and rugs in the living room.  The first floor has an open layout concept with the dining area near the stairwell and the kitchen on the back wall, with views of the sunflower field out the kitchen window. Enticing baskets of fruit and baked goods are arranged on the pantry unit just in reach from the dining table.  The opening under the stairwell has bushels of fresh picked farm apples.  Although small, the kitchen has everything one needs with a vintage stove, butcher block counter tops, farmhouse sink and country stove.

Farmhouse_Kitchen StoveFarmhouse Kitchen_SinkAs we move upstairs we are awash in royal blue and cream.  Two doll houses grace the window facing the rolling hillside, a cozy chair placed next to the dresser with an antique French perfume print which hangs above.  The inviting bed beckons us with a breakfast tray already made, the dressing area has a corresponding armoire with hat boxes placed on top and a rose detailed ladder for easy access.  Hope you enjoy the trip back in time!

Passport to Style: Far East

Park Place, Far East Style

One of my favorite aspects of being a virtual reality interior designer is that it allows you to travel to all corners of the globe without leaving your home.  Just like in VR fashion styling, I research the origins, location, and decor elements and try to give you a sense of the place.  Last year, I explored the various styles of California design, sharing stories of my family travels.  Lately, I have the travel bug and find myself googling different locales.  Today we have packed our bags and are heading to the Far East!

Park Place, Eastern Shelf Unit

I love the fusion of serene, peaceful, balanced simplicity of Asian decor paired with modern furnishings.  Some key design principles of Oriental style are natural elements, clean lines, Chinoiserie furniture, and circle motif.  Today, I designed a small tea-house space using some of Park Place Home Decor current sale items available at the main store (ending Saturday) and at The Wash Biannual Cart Sale (8/26-9/16).  Park Place Eastern Shelf Unit with Accessories typifies a number of Asian design components from the upper circle unit to the symmetrical balance of the shelving.  I added the Blue Mosaic Bottle Decor, available for $10L at The Wash Cart Sale, to highlight the traditional temple in the middle of the circle unit.  Flanking the Eastern Shelf is the Marble Resting Egret, representing the reflection of nature often found in Far East style.

Park Place, Low Tea Table

Another sale item offered until Saturday is the Low Tea Table with Cushions.  The black coffee table with burgundy cushion seating matches the Eastern Shelf Unit and embodies the clean lines of Asian form.  The tea table comes with a coffee set and to complete the scene, I added the Box of Fine Chocolates (available @ The Wash Sale).

Park Place, Cherry Table Clock

Finally, placed on a storage unit in the corner is the Copper Red Table Clock; the hands on the clock mimic the circular pattern in the shelving unit.  Be sure to check out all the sale offerings at The Wash and stop by Park Place main store for hunt gifts and discounted specials.  Hope you enjoyed the trip and are inspired to incorporate some Far East elements into your home!

Teahouse of the August Moon

Asian Tea House Full

A new round of The Challenge has started for June with the theme Asian.  There are seven designers participating in the monthly themed event offering everything from a tea house, to sushi, to Asian cabinets.  The Challenge is a bit different than other monthly home & garden shopping events where themed products are available for sale at one location.  With this event you can sneak peek the items on The Challenge site and then if interested in purchasing the creation, you teleport to the different stores.

Asian Tea House doorway

I personally love incorporating Far East pieces in home decor.  My childhood home was mainly furnished with Oriental antiques from my families travels.  The refinement of clean lines, balanced simplicity, natural materials, and hand painted lacquer furniture are elements of Asian style.  When I saw the June designs for The Challenge, I couldn’t wait to create a Japanese tea house in Second Life.  Traditionally, the tea house (as known as chashitsu) is free standing structure designed exclusivly for tea ceremonies.  Typical features of chashitsu are shoji windows and sliding doors made of wooden lattice covered in translucent paper.  I’m very fortunate that I’ve participated in many tea cermonies and its truly a beautiful experience.

Tea Table

I utilized [ht:home] little tea house as my building and styled a traditional tea ceremony with Cleo Designs tea table, chairs and tea accessories.  Cleo’s gorgeous luminous screen and floor lantern are flanking the side wall.  Apple Fall’s Chinese Credenza serves as a buffet table for Jian Sushi & Sashimi Time trays.  On the side of the buffet is 22769 ~ [bauwerk] My Zen Corner birdcage, cherry blossom, small buddha head, incense burner and zen stones.

Sushi Buffet

Pull the shoji screens closed and both sides of the doorway have Asian cabinets (22769 ~ [bauwerk] My Zen Corner & Newchurch Kaidan Mission Tansu) and customary artifacts from porcelain temple jars, to bonsai trees, to miniature Japanese zen garden.  You can easily incoporate any of these furnishing into your SL home creating layers and nuance.  Don’t be afraid to experiment with unfamiliar styles, after all virtual interior design is easier on your back!

I also wanted to highlight Prism Moira, a sexy Asian printed outfit available for free on the Summertime Fun Hunt (June 1st – 30th).  Although you couldn’t wear it to a tradtional tea cermony, it will serve as the perfect inspiration for incoporating Asian style in your home.
