I know what some of my loyal readers are thinking, doesn’t she live in California, has she ever seen snow? Yes, you are right, I live in the great Golden state and you’re partial correct in your thinking, I can’t appreciate winter unless I’ve been snowed-in and my legs buried deep in snow banks. For the record, I did see snow once, that was on the same trip to the Sierra when I attempted skiing, for the first and only time, which resulted in a broken leg. Having said that, I live in the Silicon Valley, where we have our own version of winter and don’t panic at the sight of rain like our southern neighbors. Speaking of rain, it’s been raining cats & dogs for a few days and last week we had our first ever rain day, almost all schools were closed and most business. According to the weather folks, we were suppose to get huge gust of winds and heavy rain, they were concerned that the creeks would overflow. Honestly, seemed like a bunch of smoke and no fire, so to speak, but I can’t complain, California been in a drought for a few years and every drop helps. When I was a kid, we had a drought and had to extremely cut back our water usage, saving dish water to water house plants and letting our lawns turn brown. One year, I can remember it like it was yesterday, it was right around Christmas, we had a deep frost and my backyard citrus trees were covered in icicles. I broke a few off and saved them in the freezer, I guess I thought every drop counts! 🙂
I was inspired by the colors Winter, specific the frost palette of soft blues, shimmering teals, creamy whites, and sparkling silvers for today’s interior design post using a number of items (some free) from current events. I created an icy princess bedroom hideaway complete with a stacked mattress daybed from Cleo Designs for The ChallengeFairytale theme, frosted Winter Trees from Trompe Loeil(**FREE**), snowflake winter decor, and a cozy fireplace from The Mustard Seed. I also wanted to showcase SassyRipples Gown(POE7 Gift), a sexy sequined aqua and black number with a low-cut back and peek-a-boo side. I paired the gown with Chop ZueySultaness Set, available on the 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar (gifts for members and non-members) and Belleza’s new Christmas Group Gift skin, Mae. I hope you have some time this weekend to pick up some of these deals and are inspired by all the magic of the season.
On a side note, my blog Hidden Gems in Second Life turns two today. I honestly can’t believe that something I started on a whim has now become a part of my life for the last few years. As I grow and expand my brand, I reflect back on all the post, looks, comments and suggestions, and all I can say is thank you. Thank you for your support and readership. Hopefully, I can stop time and post a top 10 list before 2015, but if we don’t meet again till the new year, I wish you a glorious and bright holiday season filled with love, lights, good food and joyous smiles!
Day 3 of Fashion For Life and so far $1,961,380L has been raised. Wow, that’s great but let’s pledge to raise more. I have a sneak peek of tons of exclusive items that you can purchase to help fund a cure to cancer at FFL, benefiting Relay for Life SL.
My friendDeb Vos, ♕MM Netherlands 2014, asked if I would model with her using KaTink Poses exclusive FFL releases, We Own This & Armed and Beautiful (both 50% donation to American Cancer Society). Thank you again Deb, it was super fun, great idea and the photo’s turned out wonderfully. First up is our casual look using KaTink’s Armed and Beautiful couple pose.
On Deb (checks Deb’s blog for a complete style card):
Grab these pose sets and have fun taking pics with your girlfriends. All your purchases at FFL will go to finding a CURE for cancer. By the way, take some time to read the stories on the Fashion For Life site of Second Life residents who have been touched by cancer. Together we can find a cure with support and funding.
Fashion For Life is the oldest and grandest fashion fundraising event in Second Life. Each year it raises thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society through Relay For Life of Second Life. This year there are 10 sims dedicated to Second Life fashion and imagination. The theme is Wanderlust – a reflection of the Relay For Life Journey to a Promise. Each of the 10 sims are designed to reflect modes of transportation. One of the sims, Trek is designed to look like an airport with runways, hangers, and planes. The Sea Day dress from Baboom and the NantraJet Set pose pack, both exclusive items for the Fashion For Life Fair were the perfect combo to highlight the Trek sim. The dress reminded me of a PanAm stew jetting the globe. 150 designers created exclusive releases and 10 awe-inspiring sims to explore in the next 13 days of giving. Part of the experience is enjoying the imagination of the sim designers. Fashion For Life runs from June 7 to 20, 2014 with DJ music presented by Zenzibar located on the new PENUMBRA sims.
FashionArt Fair is going strong and today we return to feature Vincent van Gogh as muse for India Nadeau of N2 Pixel Studio with herImpressionism Gallery Dress “Starry.” Van Gogh’s best known work The Starry Night (1889) depicts the view outside his sanatorium room in Saint Remy, France. Currently it is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. During van Gogh’s stay at the asylum, his focus turned to greater imaginative freedom in art, desiring to paint the night sky by memory. No other painting has enjoyed such an array of interpretations. Designer India Nadeau of N2 Pixel Studio used a digitally hand painted texture for the “Starry” dress exclusive and it will only be sold at the FashionArt Fair (until May 31, 2014). There are similar versions of the dress featuring a variety of color choices, also available at the fair. I paired the tea length dress with exclusives from the FashionArt Fair: Nailed ItFashionArt Set Slink Nails (Van Gogh),M&M IncorporatedBrooke Heels (Bright Pack in Royal), Loordes of LondonA Touch of Deco #2 Necklace, and{NanTra} It’s a Mod, Mod World Pose Pack. Also worn is BellezaLindy Skin and D!vaYuko Hair (Collabor88 item). Taxi please…
